Three dates, three men, 12 hours. My relationship life used to be all over the place. Back in the day, I didn’t quite know what I was looking for so I spent a lot of time looking in all the wrong places. I was a late bloomer in dating, so I didn’t really understand what relationships were about in my 20’s, so I floundered. I ended up in unstable, unfulfilling, and uncommitted relationships, again and again. Like you I’ve known heartache and disappointment from falling for the wrong guy at the wrong time. There were times when all I wanted to do was hide out in my little Brooklyn apartment and wait for somebody to tell me what to do.

I really struggled back then with being attracted to unavailable men in one form or another, emotionally unavailable, still hung up another woman, choosing long distance relationships, or just not being on the same relationship page. While I usually blamed it all on the guy, pointing a finger at him for being afraid of commitment, I had an “aha” moment when I realized that I was also dealing with my own fear of commitment. It wasn’t just that I somehow always attracted this type of man by coincidence. I was this type of girl myself. As much as I consciously wanted a committed, monogamous relationship, I actually unconsciously kept those men at bay, while only allowing in the non-committal ones, the ones just like me. They were mirrors for me, sent by the universe to allow me to see myself and see the very obstacle that kept me from having the authentic relationship I truly wanted. I learned this by trial and error, and internal spiritual work that finally allowed me a conscious breakthrough to really be able to see myself and my sabotaging behaviors. Understanding this has helped me really appreciate the journey to having more love and romance in my life, and what it takes to guide others to theirs.

 Today, I’m happy to say, I’ve grown a lot to be in a happy, long term relationship with a really great, loyal and affectionate man. In fact, those who have known me for a long time always comment in amazement, “You’re still with the same guy?!” And I reply, “yes, I am.”

I’ve figured out a lot along the way. I’ve earned a doctorate in religion and spirituality, and I’ve mentored women individually and in workshops over the years. I know that women are desperately seeking better relationships, and I know that a spiritual approach can make all the difference.

Now I am a spirituality and relationship mentor because I know that I can help people stuck in unhappy lifestyle and relationship patterns transform their lives. I now help others with the guidance I wish I had years ago. I transformed my experiences and built a business and a life for myself including a fulfilling, long term relationship. My mission is helping others achieve their relationship dreams too.

How does it work? Well, I work with really fabulous women who want more love and romance but are challenged by painful, disappointing, dead end relationships, when what they really want is to attract their perfect man and have a family.

What makes my service unique and creates successful outcomes is that I have a spiritually centered approach that boosts women’s self confidence and magnetically attracts the right man into her life.

And because of this my clients are happier and have more authentic and lasting love relationships.

Darnise Martin, Phd has 15 years of graduate education, training and experience in helping people transform their lives. Dr. Darnise holds a doctorate in Religious Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. She is an Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where she teaches courses in African American Studies and Theological Studies. She is the author of Beyond Christianity: African Americans in a New Thought Church (New York University Press, 2004). Dr. Darnise also speaks regularly to church and school communities, and she has been interviewed by television and radio host Tavis Smiley for his NPR radio program.
